CPD for schools

Empowering staff to support multilingual learners with confidence

At Every Language Learner, I design and deliver practical, engaging CPD for teachers, teaching assistants, and school leaders. Each session focuses on realistic classroom strategies that save staff time while ensuring multilingual pupils feel included and make progress. My training is always tailored to your setting, with space for discussion and reflection so staff leave feeling equipped and inspired.

Below you’ll find examples of past CPD sessions I’ve delivered and upcoming opportunities your school can join. Please get in touch for personalised CPD sessions for your school.

🌍 International Mother Language Day is coming…

but are schools ready to celebrate it meaningfully?

Free Q&A on Tuesday 10 February!!!

International Mother Language Day (21st February 2026) is a powerful opportunity to celebrate multilingualism, identity, and belonging in our schools.
But I know from working with schools that many staff want to do something… and aren’t quite sure where to start.
I’ve recently shared some ideas and reflections in:
📖 A blog I wrote for Heddle EAL exploring how schools can celebrate home languages in meaningful and inclusive ways
👉 https://lnkd.in/erBzEH48
📖 A series of blog posts on the Every Language Learner website about the importance of home languages.

If you’re looking for practical support or want to talk through ideas for your own setting, I’m also offering a FREE live Q&A session for educators, leaders, and support staff planning activities for International Mother Language Day.
🗓 Tuesday 10th February
⏰ 4:00 – 5:00pm (UK time)
💻 Online
🎟 Free to attend

You can bring questions such as:
• How can we celebrate home languages inclusively (without tokenism)?
• What meaningful activities work across different age groups?
• How do we involve families and communities?
• How can this link to curriculum and school priorities?
• What if we have limited time or budget?
This session is open to anyone working in education who wants practical, inclusive ideas and guidance.
At Every Language Learner, I believe that valuing home languages is fundamental to equity, belonging, and educational success
and International Mother Language Day is a brilliant starting point.

💭 Did you know that over half of the world’s population is multilingual?
So why do so many classrooms still operate as if everyone speaks just one language?

🏫 Did you know that multilingual students are often using two or more languages to process learning — even when they’re only asked to respond in English?

🌍 Did you know that allowing students to use their home language in class actually supports English development — not hinders it?

💡 Did you know that small adjustments — like visuals, bilingual resources, and translanguaging — can make a huge difference in inclusion?

🗣️ Did you know that students who feel their language is valued are more engaged, confident, and willing to take risks in learning?

📖 Did you know that language is more than words — it’s identity, culture, and connection?

❤️ Did you know that inclusion for multilingual learners starts with mindset — not materials?

👩‍🏫 Did you know that every teacher is a language teacher — whether you teach science, art, or maths?

🔑 Did you know that inclusion doesn’t have to be complicated? Small, intentional changes can transform a multilingual learner’s experience.

Welcome to the Inclusion for Multilingual Learners in Action webinar hosted by Marijke Rivers-Andries at Every Language Learner. I am so excited that you are joining me! If you know anything about me, you know that I am passionate about inclusion for multilingual learners. The first step to inclusion is to make sure the correct strategies have been put in place. I know this can sound daunting, but little adjustments can go a very long way.

Who is this webinar for?

  • classroom teachers
  • teaching assistants
  • EAL leads

We will look at some practical and ready-to-use strategies. This will be an interactive webinar, so I can make sure I am giving you information that is appropriate to your setting. Please get in touch if you have any questions about this webinar.

Past CPD courses school year 2025-2026

Last week I had the pleasure of leading a webinar for Heddle EAL on Inclusion for Multilingual Learners.
We started with a simple question: What does inclusion mean to you? The word cloud participants created was powerful. Words like belonging, acceptance, safety, community, and representation stood out. It was a reminder that inclusion is both deeply human and deeply practical.

Throughout the session, we explored:
🌍 Why inclusion matters for multilingual learners and for the whole school community.
🧩 Everyday practices that make a difference, from pronouncing names correctly to creating Language Ambassador programmes.
🚀 How schools can reflect on their current practices and plan realistic next steps.
👉 If you’d like to go deeper into these themes, get in touch!
