Support for New Arrivals

Starting at a new school is a big step for any child, but for students arriving with little or no English, it can feel overwhelming. At the same time, teachers are often under pressure to meet the needs of the whole class while finding ways to support their new learner.

That’s where Every Language Learner can help.

What I offer

I provide intensive English support for newly arrived students, tailored to their age, background, and individual needs. Over a period of 4–6 weeks, I work closely with the learner in a small-group or one-to-one setting to build confidence in:

  • Everyday communication
  • Essential classroom language
  • Core literacy and numeracy skills in English
  • Strategies for using and valuing their home language alongside English

A smoother transition

The aim is to gradually phase the student into mainstream lessons, ensuring they feel ready, supported, and included. This approach also eases the transition for teachers, giving them practical strategies and freeing up space to focus on the whole class.

Why it matters

When new arrivals feel safe, supported, and understood, they can begin to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. With the right foundations in place, they are far more likely to succeed long term and feel a genuine sense of belonging in school.

Together, we can make the first weeks of school a positive and empowering experience for every new learner.
